The Thing About the Truth Lauren Barnholdt Books
I've read two of Lauren Barnholdt's books and the thing I really liked about them was the characters seem so real. They're teens who act a little melodramatic, feel emotions just a little too much, and don't usually stop to think about how things will affect the future. Barnholdt writes real teens in her fictional books. The Thing about the Truth is no different. Kelsey and Isaac are no different from her other characters in that they are perfectly written teens. They jump to conclusions and act impulsively, but they're still sweet and wonderful.
I'm quite a bit like Kelsey; I'm usually deep into a novel wherever I go. She's a little shy, thinks a lot about her future at college, and just wants to find a couple friends to fit with. She thinks with her heart before her head and it gets her into trouble.
Isaac is a nice guy who doesn't always think and that's what gets him into trouble. He's supposed to be this perfect senator's son, and under the pressure of looking good, he buckles and does imperfect things, getting him kicked out of private school and sent to public. Isaac may not always meet his father's standards, but he's not a bad guy. He's sweet and attentive and it's easy to see how much he cares for Kelsey.
I had a feeling this book would end the way it did, and I also had a feeling about what the huge incident was that got between them, but I still really enjoyed reading about the before and after. The Thing About the Truth is a speedy, but wonderful summer read that will leave you smiling, happy, and looking for that sweet romance.

The Thing About the Truth Lauren Barnholdt Books Reviews
I really liked the book and think that Lauren Barnholt did a good job. I really liked the love story and how she makes the bad boy good. The part I didnt like was that they bounced back and forth from the present and past. My favorite part about the book was how Kelsey and Isaac start to like each other. They are two opposite people but somehow fall in love and even though they get in a really big fight they still seam to work it out.
So I bought this book because I was bored and needed something to read for a while. I was really disappointed with it actually. The book is told with a past/present sort of view. The main characters are explaining their situation to their principle. The whole book builds up on this HUGE secret that broke them up and made the boy SUPER mad at the girl, and at the end, it was over THE STUPIDEST reason. It was not a big deal at all, I dont even know why she lied in the first place. Now that I think about it, this book was actually horrible. The plot is so weak, I'm surprised this book was even published. The main girl whines and whines and lies over something so stupid and the excuse she gives at the end is just as weak. AND their romance is so unbelievable! They go from hating each other to loving each other. There is absolutely no reason why they fall for each other. The only reason I gave this book a 2 instead of a 1 is because of this quote in the book
"The thing about the truth is that it always comes out"
Lame, but I kind of liked it.
Disclaimer I read a lot of YA, so when I compare this to others it's just okay. If I didn't read others, I'd probably give it a better rating.
It's a good book but the negatives are too big to ignore. Mostly, the ending is abrupt and, for me, the boy lost his charm when he became so mad. He was a more realistic character but, let's be honest, these YA books have unrealistic perfect male lead characters. That's part of the reason I read them so when I stopped liking the lead male character I stopped liking the book as much as the other books I love (including Lauren Barnholdt). Also, I would've liked a better resolution all the way around. I felt it lacked a little in the ending. Those were the only strong negatives, otherwise, it was a good read. Enjoyable but not my favorite by a long shot.
My rating of this book 3.7
I love this author basically because Sometimes it Happens is one of my favorite books. She builds great drama and believable romance. This book features more delicious kissing scenes than her other books, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
The story was refreshing and original; The story pace was great, I was engaged every step of the way. The 'situation' that builds all the drama, was bit too built up for what it was.
I only have two gripes about this book
1) I thought that $9.99 for such a short book (about 3667 words) was steep. You are basically paying for the author's name.
2 The ending seemed unfinished. Ite feels almost as if a few pages were missing putting everything together at the end. I would have love to learn what happened to Cloe, Dave and Marshall? What were the consequences for Isaac and Kelsey? What happened between Kelsey and Rielle?
Do I recommend this book? Sure thing. Will I read more from this author? Absolutely.
The Thing About the Truth by Lauren Barnhodlt is a humurous love story about two people who come from different backgrounds and fall in love. There were alot of things that I especially liked about this book were the characters Issac is awesome. He is so handsome and I love his attitude. I feel that the author did a great job at speaking from a realistic male teenager point of view. I also feel that Issac feelings for Kelsey were very real. Kelsey was a good leading character. I liked that she didnt just give into Issac so quickly. Although, there were times when I sighed at how she treated Issac I liked her. I also liked the supporting characters such as Marshall and Chloe.
The writing style was very nice and polished. There was a good mixture of dialogue (which I love) and being in the characters head. I also really loved the way how the book was written. (future to past..then back to the futre) It helped to keep the readers in suspense and on their toes. It helped to build everything that led up to the real reason of the conflict between Kelsey and Issac.
I would recommend this book to readers who want a fresh, contemporary teen/young adult novel. Buy! Buy! Buy! ***4.5 stars***
